The pursuit of wellness requires us to consider all the interconnected aspects of life. Although modern-day Western medicine has provided us with a long list of essential, life-saving medical advances, it has also trained us to view our health as a collection of individual symptoms and treatments, as opposed to looking at the whole person.

A holistic approach to health encourages medical practitioners to recognise all aspects of a person’s life to address the root cause of the problem rather than just the symptoms. This approach takes into account how all seemingly individual parts of our lives work together to heal or cause illness, offering a complementary approach beyond treating symptoms alone. When addressing health issues and symptoms, holistic health looks beyond the physical body, such as pain, fatigue, and physical illnesses. Symptoms may be caused by physical pain or discomfort, but they can also be caused by underlying emotional, mental, spiritual, and social issues.
